Job Summary/Basic Functions

Under the general supervision from the Manager, incumbent in this position will perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties to assist in the areas of patient relations, collections, data entry, file maintenance and others. The incumbent will interact between twenty-five to thirty-five LSU Faculty members participating in Faculty Dental Practice. Due to the nature of the duties involved, the incumbent is expected to perform these duties with a high degree of accountability and confidentiality.  The incumbent in this' position will also interface with high level administrators and staff at the LSU School of Dentistry. The incumbent must have a broad knowledge of university policies and by-laws, Civil Services rules and regulations, and federal laws.    To prepare and maintain patent data in order to verify patients' eligibility status during the hospital admissions process.

Other Information About the Position

LSU Health New Orleans Dental Faculty Clinic is seeking motivated applicant for the title of WAE Health Information Coordinator 4. This is a temporary appointment.

If hired in a WAE Appointment, I understand that I am not eligible for or entitled to state benefits, leave earning and paid holidays. I am only authorized to work up to 1245 hours within a twelve-month period, regardless of the job title or state agency that I work within. The twelve-month period is established upon initial date of hire, and the 1245 hours may be worked on a full-time, part-time, or intermittent basis within the twelve-month period. Only the State Civil Service Commission may grant exceptions to this rule. In the event the appointing authority determines that a layoff is necessary, I do not have rights to offers of relocation to another position.

Job Duties and Responsibilities, but not limited to,

  • Post procedures and fees to patient accounts, collect payment for procedures, print walk out statements, maintain and balance cash receipts for the area, dispense insurance claim form if patient needs one to file their claim.
  • Preparing and printing daily schedule and billing slips for the next day.
  • Maintaining the clinic schedule including any changes to the schedule and
    coordinating emergency situations between doctor and patient.
  • Contacting doctors/hygienists regarding their schedules and any patient messages via phone or email.
  • Maintain a color-coded filing system.
  • Organize, file, and pull patient charts for all patients
    being seen.
  • Duplicate files as needed by referral doctors and attorneys.
  • Monitor the use of departmental forms, order forms and supplies as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Type of experience required to perform the job: One year of experience in administrative services in a medical setting.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday; work hours will be determined by the department

Compensation: Pay is dependent upon applicants’ qualifications. There is an additional $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only.

This is a Civil Service Position.

Pre-employment Drug testing and Criminal Background check are required.

This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.
