Job Summary/Basic Functions
To serve as shift supervisor over a group of lower level Food Service Specialists and those engaged in activities in a food service operation. Under close instruction and supervision from the Director of Dining Services, the incumbent in this position will perform and oversee all cooking duties within the Cafeteria. The incumbent will also supervise lower-level Food Service Specialists. In addition, the incumbent is expected to be fully knowledgeable about and comply with the policies, procedures, calendar of events, and deadlines of the retail operation as established by the Director of the individual Auxiliary Enterprises' section. The incumbent is also expected to protect the interest and/or assets of the cafeteria and thus the State of Louisiana. Serve Safe Certification necessary, minimum Associates Degree in Culinary Arts or Hotel Restaurant Preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: None
Number of years required to perform the job: 3
Type of experience required to perform the job: Three years of food service experience in a food service operation; OR
Three years of training in food technology, food service management, or in a food service-related curriculum in a trade school or technical institute; OR
Thirty-six semester hours in food and nutrition, dietetics, food service preparation, home economics, or hotel, food service, restaurant, or institutional management.
Certifications or Licenses Preferred: Selected Candidate must attain ServSAFE certification within 60 days of hire.
Special Instructions Summary
LSU Health New Orleans Division of Auxiliary Enterprises Cafe’ is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Food Service Specialist 5.
Serves as Shift Supervisor of Food Service Operation and Catering services and ensures that all duty stations are manned on an assigned shift. Knowledge of opening and closing procedures of all workstations in the absence of employees, including cashier positions.
Selected Candidate must attain ServSAFE certification within 60 days of hire.
Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Serves as shift supervisor of food service operation and catering services and ensures that all duty stations are manned on an assigned shift
- Ensures that items are prepared, cooked, and served in accordance with standards of quality and quantity. Ensure standards of visual presentation of all food items
- Adherence to recipes and catering menus and ensure consistency and quality of product
- Coach proper food safety and sanitation techniques
- Ensure service station are clean, prior to and throughout service. Ensure proper health codes are met and followed. Ensure employee stations comply prior to departure
- Checks menus for assigned meals and ensures all items needed are in stock
- Supervise and maintain storage areas. Lead and coach to ensure items are placed in correct places, store properly (FIFO), and are correct items to be received.

Hours of Operation: 10:00 am - 6:30 pm Monday - Friday
Appointment Type: Probational
- This is a Civil Service Position.
- This position does not require applicants to take a Civil Service test.
- Pre-employment Drug testing and Criminal Background check are required.

- This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.
Starting Rate of $14.03 up to $22.44 for this title dependent upon applicants’ qualifications. There is also an additional $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only.
