Job Summary/Basic Functions

The fellowship project will collaborate with the Louisiana Cancer Prevention & Control Program, LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center researchers, Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium researchers and community organizations to develop implement and evaluate the impact of evidence-based interventions at the community level to coordinate community research and activities, evaluate the impact of these activities, build community partnerships, and provide venues for community inclusion in cancer research. Research activities will focus on health disparities and equity in order to: raise awareness and engagement in cancer screening and treatment; promote cancer prevention via modifiable risk factors (smoking, obesity, other risks); and promote multi-level, translational, and transdisciplinary approaches to cancer research.
There will be considerable opportunities for the postdoctoral scholar to participate in the development and implementation of several research projects, project coordination, recruitment, data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing. The postdoctoral fellow will join a cohort of cancer fellows at LSU Health New Orleans, Louisiana Public Health Institute, and Xavier University. The postdoctoral fellowship is for a 12-month period, with the option to renew for additional years, contingent on performance. The fellow will report to Dr. Donna Williams, Associate Director of Community Outreach and Engagement of the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center.

The Community Health Science & Policy program at the School of Public Health is focused on promoting wellness, preventing disease, and improving the quality of life among marginalized communities and populations by focusing on systems, equity, and policy impact. Our program advocates the use of a socio-ecological approach to identify and understand the social, cultural, and bio-behavioral determinants affecting health. Using this understanding, this program works to improve personal and population health through planning, implementation, and operating effective and community responsive programs and organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Doctorate

Required Field of Study: public health, population health, sociology, health policy, or a related discipline focused on behavioral intervention research

Type of experience required to perform the job: Highly motivated candidates with excellent writing, communication, and engagement skills are desired.

Candidate should also have strong problem solving, analytical skills and strategic thinking

Applicants must have a demonstrated record of working in a diverse environment, preferably at the community level

Quantitative or qualitative data analysis skills including ability to use statistical packages and proficiency in navigating and maintaining databases
