Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Division of Burn Care and Research within the Department of Surgery, School of Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center–New Orleans, seeks candidates for an academic faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (on the Research, non-tenure track). Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This position will serve as Director of Operations for Burn & Trauma Research.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with departmental leadership, institutional partners, and program stakeholders to achieve strategic milestones. Responsibilities include the development of a robust, externally funded research portfolio; publication in peer-reviewed journals; and the advancement of research infrastructure in support of Center of Excellence designation. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate ongoing contributions to education, workforce development, and broader institutional impact.
This position entails close collaboration with clinical teams, research personnel, and external partners. Limited travel may be required for research coordination, field work, and participation in scientific meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: PhD or equivalent
Required Field of Study: Biomedical sciences, public health, health services research, epidemiology, engineering, or related field
Number of years required to perform the job: 1
Type of experience required to perform the job: Relevant, professional level experience
Preferred Experience: Demonstrated experience in clinical or translational research.
Experience with grant-funded research and regulatory processes.
Strong analytical, organizational, and scientific writing skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Self-motivated and have the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in an environment which is often stressful and fast-paced.
Experience with trauma, burn, emergency medicine, or prehospital research.
Experience with Department of Defense or federal research programs.
Record of peer-reviewed publications and successful grant support.
Experience developing research infrastructure or large collaborative projects.
