Job Summary/Basic Functions
Reporting to the Standardized Patient Director, the Standardized Patient (SP) Educator will work closely with the Standardized Patient Coordinator. The primary responsibility of this position is to coordinate and oversee learner-facing clinical skills assessments, including scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of high-stakes assessments for learners at all levels across the LSU Health Sciences Center, while supporting standardized patient (SP) training and supervision in collaboration with the SP Coordinator. Incumbent will be responsible for scheduling all learners, implementing assessments, and remediating learners rotating through the Standardized Patient Project; assisting the SP coordinator to schedule and train all SPs in patient-focused medical education and SP Project orientation, preparation of clinical skills assessment, case training, and delivery of feedback to learners. The SP Educator will take a leading role in SP workforce management, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, background checks, and payroll processing.
Responsibilities also include: maintain all SP case activity-related training files and documentation, according to specific curriculum requirements and objectives; work closely with Standardized Patient Project staff to deliver the required curriculum and assess the performance of the learners; work with the Standardized Patient Director, Standardized Patient Coordinator, course/clerkship directors, and Medical Director of the Standardized Patient Project in the development and implementation of instructional methods and evaluation strategies for an integrated clinical skills curriculum; maintain SP Project physical resources including a sophisticated data/video software management system, and medical equipment; facilitate an integrated SP program for diverse learners to include all levels of medical students, Advanced Practice trainees, nursing students, Allied Health students, and all levels of residents and faculty. The SP Educator will be a member of the Standardized Patient Working Group and will assist with case development and the implementation of educational and assessment modules.
