Job Summary/Basic Functions

This is skilled trades work assembling, installing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing structures, equipment, finishes and accessories across all maintenance trades.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
This position is considered an essential personnel position and must be available to respond to campus emergencies after hours and during campus closures.
The employee may be assigned to the emergency team that remains on campus and or evacuates to an off-site location during emergency events.
This position may be placed on the On-Call rotation.
Must have a current driver’s license.
Knowledge of general maintenance trades techniques, methods and procedures.
Skill in performing general maintenance trades functions.
Ability to complete general maintenance trades duties and responsibilities.
Ability to direct employees to perform assigned tasks.
Ability to use hand tools and power tools and equipment properly.
Ability to read and dearly understand blueprints.
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments:
Ability to carry, erect, climb, and maneuver on ladders and/or scaffolds; work in tight and awkward spaces; work off of roofs, cat walks, and other elevated areas.
Ability to carry or otherwise move loads of 50 pounds or more (pipe, wire, toolboxes, etc.),
Ability to understand and apply University rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and within extreme temperature ranges.
Visual ability, corrected, to observe people and/or vehicles moving through the work area in order to redirect work or equipment to avoid injuries to the people or damage to the vehicles.
Ability to communicate information effectively, In English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Other Information About the Position

LSU Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking highly motivated applicants for the position of Maintenance Repairer 1 or 2.

This position is a part of a Career Progression Group. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Maintenance Repairer 1 or 2) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). 

Starting rate is $17.18 for the Maintenance Repairer 1 and $19.67 for the MR 2 with an additional $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only. Rate may be increased dependent upon applicants’ qualifications.

This position requires the employee to pass a Qualification process to be promoted to a Maintenance Repairer 2.
Persons applying must possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s license.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Installs, maintains, alters, repairs and removes simple electrical fixtures, interior light fixtures, light machinery, electrical outlets and switches
  • Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs plumbing fixtures, toilets, unclog sink/toilet/tub drains
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Performs demolition and construction work on minor projects as assigned throughout the entire campus
  • Adheres to all federal, state, local, campus, and department safety regulations during the performance of assigned duties
    Special events work; b) campus maintenance emergencies
  • Assists other trades in their duties (plumbers, electricians, locksmiths, carpenters, sign shop and painters) when needed

 

Minimum Qualifications

Number of years required to perform the job: 1 year for a MR 1 and 2 for a MR 2

Type of experience required to perform the job: experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.

Substitution: QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.

OR

Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering.

OR

Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

No Civil Service Test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.
