Job Summary/Basic Functions

Working under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director for General Accounting, the incumbent for this position will be responsible for various administrative and professional general accounting functions. Duties performed requires knowledge of financial accounting and applicable Health Sciences Center (HSC) policies and procedures. This position performs general ledger functions to ensure information is entered timely and accurately into electronic systems to facilitate timely month end and year end functions.

The Staff Accountant is an entry level position at the SVCAF level of LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. The basic responsibilities as defined below may change as our office continues to innovate and streamline processes.
Prepare daily journal entries for financial systems. This function will require the interpretation of source documents obtained from various academic and administrative departments. Verify the accuracy and appropriateness of information received. Contact departments as necessary for corrections and additional documentation.
Examine and analyze various reports as necessary to prepare weekly and monthly journals for banking, credit card systems, and internal transactions. Create miscellaneous journals from various. Assists in the month-end and year-end close processes as needed.
Collect and review daily remote bank deposit reports from various departments, student receivables and/or other miscellaneous revenue sources for journal preparation.
Run reports, interpret results, and prepare various spreadsheets for reporting as needed.
Maintain the confidentiality of the records for the General Accounting section, including filing, scanning, and retrieval as requested. Maintains an understanding of record retention policies and applies accordingly.

Required Education: Bachelor's

Required Field of Study: Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
