Job Summary/Basic Functions

The School of Medicine at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans seeks applications for a postdoctoral fellow position to perform experiments related to infection and immunity in cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease. The incumbent should have a strong background in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, animal physiology and histology, and complex data analysis. A strong interest in generating hypotheses and addressing research questions of high complexity. Work will include gene targeting, animal model generation and characterization, in vivo and ex vivo studies of infection and inflammation. Major techniques for in vivo research include mouse and rabbit breeding, tissue harvesting, genotyping, lung and peritoneal infection and inflammation. Major techniques for ex vivo research include primary and cell line culture and maintenance, CRISPR/Cas9 gene targeting, lentiviral production, transduction and transfection, single cell cloning and characterization. The incumbent will be trained on the responsible conduct of research and ethics in research and will be required to participate in the departmental seminar series. In addition to the technical training, the incumbent will be mentored to write scientific manuscripts and to submit grant applications.

Required Education: PhD
