Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Communication Disorders in the School of Allied Health Professions at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans seeks candidates for an open rank Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor position. Candidates with a terminal degree (PhD, EdD) are preferred. Candidates with an SLPD will also be considered. This is a 12-month faculty position located in person in New Orleans, Louisiana. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026.

Primary teaching and clinical responsibilities will be in the areas of adult neurogenics, medical speech-language pathology, and acquired motor speech disorders. The candidate will also be responsible for scholarly research activities in the area of candidate’s expertise, providing direct patient-student supervision in the LSU Health Speech-Language & Hearing Clinic, student mentoring, and service to the department and university. The successful candidate will demonstrate effectiveness in teaching, scholarship, and service, demonstrate effective communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to collegiality in the workplace.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Doctorate

Other Education if applicable: Ph.D., Ed.D, or SLP-D

Required Field of Study: Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field

Certifications or Licenses Required: Certificate of clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in Speech Language Pathology

Number of years required to perform the job: 1

Type of experience required to perform the job: 

• Experience as a clinically practicing SLP (preferred adult medical speech-language pathology populations).
• Experience teaching in a Communication Disorders/Speech-language Pathology program. 1 year required

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience: 

• At least one year of experience teaching at the graduate level
• At least one year of experience in the clinical supervision of SLP students
• Ability to mentor student research
• Ability to secure grant funding

Established in 1970, by the Board of Supervisors, the School of Allied Health Professions comprises both undergraduate and graduate programs. Baccalaureate degrees (Bachelor of Science) are offered in Cardiopulmonary Science and Medical Laboratory Science. The Department of Communication Disorders offers a Master of Communication Disorders degree in Speech and Language Pathology and a Doctor of Audiology (AuD) in hearing.
