Minimum Qualifications

Required Education:  No minimum required

Number of years required to perform the job: 1

Type of experience required to perform the job: HIC1-One year of experience in administrative services; OR
One year of training in or completion of a business or clerical-related curriculum from a business school or technical institute.

HIC 2-One year of experience in administrative services in a medical setting.

HIC 3-Two years of experience in administrative services in a medical setting.

Substitution: HIC 1-Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the required general experience.

Additional Information About This Position

Duties and responsibilities included, but not limited to:

  • Research and update files with current patient information. Reviews, classifies, and maintains health care records by updating patient files, filing, compiling statistics, and identifying and correcting record errors on reports.
  • Conducts in-depth interviews to complete and/or update information. Verifies patient eligibility for hospital and/or social services by interpreting and applying Federal, State, and facility policies and procedures. Verify Medicaid eligibility and research information to file pre-authorizations and claims for payment. Assist with Medicaid and third-party insurance.
  • Collect and accurately post payments to the proper clinic departments. This includes payments received in person as well as by mail or telephone by patients at the School of Dentistry Clinics. The collection process includes compliance to University, Federal, and State policies and regulations.
  • Review patient accounts to ensure charges and patient information are accurate. Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Retrieves and updates patient records upon request and maintains custody files for records removed from department.
  • Coordinate with residents and students on procedures covered by Medicaid and proper documentation required for accurate filing.
  • Completes forms for departmental productivity reports and hospital record keeping. Balance daily collections and secure for the next day's deposit.
  • Communicates hospital rules and regulations to patients and third parties. Communicate procedures with students, residents, and staff to ensure proper fee collection. Assist physicians and other healthcare workers in health records requirements and policies.
  • Send necessary correspondence to patients for returned checks and update patient's record accordingly.
  • Assist with the process of patient refunds.
  • Assist management with special projects or reports as needed.
  • Administrative task as needed

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Compensation: There is a starting rate of $18.75 for the HIC 3 $16.37 for the HIC2 and $15.30 for the HIC1 per hour.
Pay is dependent upon applicants’ qualifications. There is an additional $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only.
