Job Summary/Basic Functions

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available at the LSU Health Sciences Center Neuroscience Center of Excellence. Our laboratory develops and evaluates antimicrobial therapeutics for drug-resistant bacterial infections and infected-wound healing, with emphasis on polymicrobial wounds.

Projects may involve molecular design and chemical preparation of modalities or biological studies of antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity, resistance development, mechanisms of action, host–pathogen interactions, cytocompatibility, immunomodulation, and therapeutic efficacy in wound-infection models.

Responsibilities include designing and conducting independent and collaborative research, analyzing data, preparing manuscripts and presentations, and contributing to laboratory operations and grant development. Candidates are not expected to have expertise in every area listed above.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: PhD or MD

Required Field of Study: Synthetic organic chemistry of peptide or lipid derivatives, Microbiology, Immunology, Pharmacology, Chemical Biology, Biomaterials, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field

Number of years required to perform the job: 0–4 years related research experience after obtaining PhD degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education: PhD

Preferred Discipline: Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Microbiology, Bacterial Pathogenesis, Immunology, Pharmacology, Chemical Biology, Biomaterials, Wound Healing, or a related field

Preferred Experience: Strong research experience in at least one of the following areas: synthetic organic chemistry involving peptide or lipid derivatives; antimicrobial research; bacterial pathogenesis; biofilm biology; host–pathogen interactions; biomaterials; or wound-infection models. Experience with Gram-negative bacteria, particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa, or animal infection models is preferred for candidates pursuing the antimicrobial-biology projects.
