Job Summary/Basic Functions

Under supervision, the Research Associate 1, 2, or 3 (RA) position will assist with managing the Biobank Core laboratory used by multiple investigators at LSUHSC, partner institutions, and other universities and outside vendors. The incumbent is responsible for all database, equipment, and technological procurement suggestions and upgrades. The RA duties include, but are not limited to, providing various services, including patient identification, obtaining informed consent, specimen collection, tissue processing, specimen storage and maintenance, database creation, upgrades, and maintenance, and management of the Biobank data. The incumbent may also train and supervise junior level staff members, visiting Fellows, and students when applicable on proper equipment handling, technique, and lab safety.

The RA must have reliable transportation to commute between New Orleans area hospitals and must be comfortable lifting and walking with objects <20 lbs up to 3 miles per day to and from campus while sometimes working in a cold environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's

Required Field of Study: Basic Science, Health Science, or related field

Number of years required to perform the job: RA1 - Zero (0) to under three (3) years of experience; RA2 - Three (3) years of experience; RA3 - Five (5) years of experience

Type of experience required to perform the job: Research or research environment, laboratory management, Core lab, and/or clinical experience

Substitution: RA2 – Master’s degree in a basic or health science or related field with a minimum of 1 year of experience
RA3 – Master’s degree in a basic or health science or related field with a minimum of 2 years of experienceorPhD in a basic or health science or related field
