Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Morgue Technician will be responsible for the cadaveric remains of donors to the willed body program at LSUHSC-New Orleans. The incumbent will receive and catalog human remains; evaluate, blood test and embalm donors; cremate donors; prepare donors for use in graduate and post-graduate courses and oversee donors in courses; manage and dispose of hazardous chemicals; clean and maintain crematory, labs and the morgue, including freezers and cold boxes; transport donors to LSUHSC and affiliated institutions; and maintain a culture of respect and advocacy for donors and their families while acting as an ambassador the LSUHSC willed body program.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's
Required Field of Study: Anatomy, biology, or another health-related field
Number of years required to perform the job: MT1: 0-2 years; MT2: 2-4 years
Type of experience required to perform the job: Mortuary, dissection or other related experience
Substitution: An additional four years of experience working with cadavers can substitute for the bachelor's degree.
