Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Department of Family Medicine of the LSU Health Sciences Center – New Orleans is seeking applications for an academic faculty position to serve as a Behavioral Health Specialist/Educator. This position is based in Lake Charles. Appointment will be at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (non-tenure, clinical track), dependent on qualifications. Incumbent will be a vital member of the Family Medicine Residency Program, providing expertise in the integration of behavioral health principles and practices within the primary care setting. The Behavioral Health Specialist/Educator will share responsibilities with the Program Director and other faculty for the design and implementation of the behavioral health curriculum, ensuring residents receive training sufficient to meet and exceed the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Program Requirements for the residency program. Incumbent will focus on various domains including behavioral and community health, human behavior, psychiatry, ethics, doctor-patient communication, cultural humility, quality improvement, interdisciplinary approach, and well-being (for residents and faculty). Such training occurs during specialized didactic presentations, during rotations, one-on-one or group sessions with residents, and longitudinally while co-precepting with faculty physicians. The Behavioral Health Specialist/Educator will engage in scholarly activities within the Family Medicine Residency Program.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: PhD or equivalent
Other Education if applicable: PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited institution and successful completion of an APA-accredited residency program
Certifications or Licenses Required: Licensed to practice clinical psychology in Louisiana or valid LCSW license in Louisiana; credentialed with all required entities before hire
Substitution: Master’s degree in social work and successful completion of accredited clinical internship
Preferred Experience: Experience in population health, quality improvement, and statistical analysis is a plus
