The Department Assistant for the Counseling Department provides comprehensive administrative and operational support for the daily clinic functions within the on-campus counseling clinic. This position ensures that all front office operations run efficiently and effectively between patients, clinicians, faculty, students, and staff. Primary responsibilities include overseeing patient intake and front desk workflow, managing patient billing and payment collection, maintaining patient medical records, and the overall day to day clinic operations.


The Department Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Clinical Director and collaborates closely with the Department Head, faculty, and clinic personnel. The role requires consistent communication with LSU Health Sciences Center schools and departments, referring clinicians, outside healthcare facilities, schools, insurance companies, patients, and caregivers. This role will involve some cross training with the department coordinator.


The ideal candidate demonstrates flexibility, the ability to multitask, strong problem solving skills, and confidence in making independent decisions. The incumbent must communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse populations. The position requires working knowledge of and compliance with state, federal, university, and school policies, rules, and regulations.
