Job Summary/Basic Functions

Reporting to the Department Head and the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, incumbent is responsible for managing all fiscal and administrative matters of the department in an independent manner. The Business Manager is responsible for maintaining the fiscal integrity of the department; this includes but is not limited to ensuring that all expenditures are within budgets and available sources of funding. Incumbent will educate the faculty on funds management and will be responsible for implementing and adhering to all relevant rules, regulations and procedures as they relate to the administrative and financial operation of the department.

Other Information About the Position

Incumbent will perform a complex variety of business and fiscal responsibilities in concert with the Dean’s Office of the School of Medicine and various areas of Central Administration. Assuming a leadership role, this position will be responsible for: strategic planning/business development, financial management, grants and contract management, purchasing and inventory controls, personnel administration and management.

The successful candidate must have a demonstrated competency in administrative and financial functions with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Position requires considerable discretion, diplomacy, technical skills and ability to make independent decisions within a dynamic and complex work environment. Work is performed with a high degree of autonomy, self-initiative and accountability with considerable focus on strong organizational skills along with efficiency of process. The ability to work under pressure and prioritize work is critical. Incumbent must be able to work independently with little or no supervision to complete all duties and assignments on an accurate and timely basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's

Required Field of Study: Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline

Number of years required to perform the job: 3

Type of experience required to perform the job: Relevant professional level experience

Substitution: Degree in other area will be considered with additional 3 years of relevant experience. Master's degree in a business oriented discipline can substitute for 2 years experience.
