Job Summary/Basic Functions

Job Title: Principal Faculty
Reports to: Program Director, LSUHSC NO Physician Assistant Program

The Principal Faculty member plays a critical role in the Physician Assistant (PA) Program by teaching and mentoring students in both the didactic and clinical phases. This faculty member works closely with the Program Director and other faculty to develop, deliver, and assess course content while ensuring alignment with ARC-PA standards and program competencies. The Principal Faculty member is also involved in student assessment, academic advising, and continuous curriculum improvement.

Responsibilities:

1. Teaching:
Participate in the education of PA students across the curriculum as assigned by the Program Director.
Develop and deliver course content, including lectures, seminars, and workshops, in accordance with program goals and ARC-PA standards.
Facilitate instruction, including simulation exercises, case-based learning, and skills assessments.

2. Assessment:
o Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and competency.
o Provide constructive feedback to students on their academic and/or clinical performance in a timely manner.
o Regularly review and update assessments to ensure alignment with course objectives and program competencies.
o Participate in grading and evaluation processes for didactic and/or clinical courses.

3. Curriculum Development and Review:
o Collaborate with other faculty to review, revise, and enhance course content to ensure it remains current, evidence-based, and relevant to the evolving needs of the PA profession.
o Assist in the development of course objectives and assessment tools in coordination with faculty.
o Participate in continuous improvement efforts to align the curriculum with ARC-PA competencies and accreditation requirements.

4. Remediation
o Develop, implement and ensure completion of remediation plans for students who fail to meet program benchmarks.

5. Accreditation and Compliance:
o Ensure that all instructional activities meet ARC-PA accreditation standards and institutional policies.
o Participate in preparing accreditation reports, site visits, and documentation related to both didactic and clinical instruction.
o Oversee compliance with academic integrity, professionalism, and safety standards within courses.
o Participate in the collection, review and analysis of program data and the creation of the self-study report.

6. Faculty Committee Participation:
o Serve as a key member of the program’s team, contributing to the development, review, and revision of the program’s mission, goals, and competencies.
o Actively participate in PA Department and SAHP Committees, including:
Curriculum Committee: Contribute to the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the curriculum and program.
Administrative Committee: Review and contribute to the creation of program policies and procedures.
Admissions Committee: Review, interview, and select applicants for the program. Additionally, contribute to the review and modification of admission criteria to ensure alignment with the evolving needs of the program and profession.
Promotions Committee: Review student performance and assess readiness for progression throughout the program.

7. Other Duties:
o Assist in planning, administering, and evaluating summative assessments, ensuring they align with ARC-PA competencies and program learning objectives.
o Assist in the collection of program data.
o Serve as an academic advisor to PA students.
o Participate in program activities such as admissions events, student orientations, and faculty retreats.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Master's

Required Field of Study: Masters of Physician Assistant Studies or Similar

Certifications or Licenses Required: NCCPA certification and LSBME licensure by start date

Number of years required to perform the job: 3

Type of experience required to perform the job: Clinical Experience teaching in both online and traditional classroom environments. Professional work experience as a physician assistant in a healthcare setting. Evidence of strong administrative and managerial skills.
