Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Department of Physiology in the School of Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA invites applications for an academic faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor from outstanding candidates with a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree. Rank and track will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications. Applications are invited from outstanding individuals working in any area of physiology, but particular areas of specific interest include neurophysiology (broadly, but especially related to chronic pain or addictive disorders), endocrinology/metabolism, cardiovascular physiology, and the biomedical consequences of alcohol and drug abuse. The candidate will be expected to synergize with existing research strengths in these areas and will be expected to contribute to effective teaching programs for future scientists and health care professionals in training. Applicants are also expected to maintain an active, extramurally funded research program and to mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, including those associated with our NIH/NIAAA T32 Training Program. Opportunities and joint appointments are available for interaction with LSU Centers of Excellence in Alcohol & Drug Abuse, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular Biology, Cancer, and Burn, which are all supported by a state-of-the-art infrastructure, including access to innovative core laboratories in genomics, proteomics and metabolomics, imaging, metabolism and immunology, and flow cytometry.
