Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor (non-tenure or tenure track) pending assessment of potential candidate credentials. This candidate will primarily contribute to the scholarship, teaching and service mission of the Department.
The incumbent must exhibit a high degree of professional excellence characterized by sound independent judgment, reliability, initiative, flexibility, and a high standard of ethics. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is essential.
Interested applicants must have demonstrated experience in providing high quality didactic instruction in pharmacology to undergraduate and professional students, while also utilizing the latest educational techniques such as the flipped classroom and team-based learning.
Teaching duties may be assigned within the multiple health professional schools of the LSU Health Sciences Center (Medicine, Dentistry, Allied Health, Nursing and Graduate). Of particular concern is the critical need for an individual to provide instruction in the 2nd year of Medical School in the following areas of pharmacology: pharmacokinetics, pharmacology of drugs used to treat neurological, psychiatric, endocrine, and renal disorders. This individual would also be required to teach and lecture on selected pharmacology topics in the other schools of the Health Sciences Center.
In this position, the candidate will be expected to deliver lectures and lessons, prepare course materials and evaluate student performance through exams, assignments, and other assessments. They will be able to address drug information, literature evaluation, biostatistics, research design, and medication safety in their efforts.
An ideal candidate would be an educator who also has an extramurally funded research program, or who would be willing to collaborate in an already established program. The incumbent will participate in departmental and institutional activities, serving on committees, and helping in recruitment and mentoring of students.
